Questo volume raccoglie i contributi scientifici relativi all'incontro "Gli interni, essenza dell'architettura: Adriano Cornoldi (1942-2009)" tenutosi al Politecnico di Milano il 29 maggio 2019 nell'ambito del corso dottorale Architecture Research Agenda: Open Lectures, coordinato dal prof. Alessandro Rocca, per il PhD Program in Architectural Urban and Interior Design, Politecnico di Milano. I curatori del libro: Greta Allegretti, Carola D'Ambros, Chiara Lionello, Enrico Miglietta.

Il libro illustra una "storia territoriale" che nel secolo scorso ha contrassegnato non solo lo sviluppo del distretto del Verbano Cusio Ossola, ma ha caratterizzato fortemente tutto il design italiano nel comparto del casalingo. Aziende come Alessi, Lagostina, Bialetti, Girmi, Calderoni, Piazza, La Nuova Faro hanno investito in ricerche per quegli anni avveniristiche e hanno tracciato nuove direzioni di sviluppo, costruendo delle storie "familiari" che sono poi entrate, con i loro prodotti, nelle famiglie di tutti. Il libro, focalizzato sul product design, sfocia spesso nel racconto di una dimensione domestica e d'interni, con frequenti rimandi al contesto sociale; gli oggetti diventano così testimoni di un'intera epoca, di cui restituiscono valori sociali, estetici e culturali. Seguendo un'impostazione cronologica, l'autore ci conduce in quella dimensione immaginifica che ha reso l'affermazione di questo distretto un'avventura unica e pionieristica, una "piccola storia" che ha contribuito a rendere grande la Storia del design italiano.

Ogni giorno percorriamo strade sottovalutando quanto esse possano essere pericolose, ignari che in un solo attimo potremmo però cambiare la nostra prospettiva. Questo volume, suddiviso in tre parti, "la mobilità dello spazio", "il laboratorio" ed "il workshop", racconta di come un bisogno concreto, nato dall'incontro con il comitato "Forza Danilo" e dalla loro domanda di poter realizzare un sovrappasso pedonale, abbia portato al conseguimento di un workshop interdisciplinare per la messa in sicurezza dell'attraversamento pedonale in corrispondenza dell'accesso principale alla Cittadella Universitaria in prossimità della Circonvallazione di Catania. «Sovrappasso d'uomo, processi che ridefiniscono bisogni» descrive l'evoluzione del percorso che ha condotto all'elaborazione di strategie diffuse su tutta l'infrastruttura, tramite un approccio di progettazione condivisa, nel tentativo di leggere lo spazio urbano e la mobilità dal punto di vista della categoria più debole, il pedone, con l'obiettivo di progettare una città "a passo d'uomo".

Project challenges: sustainable development and urban resilience fosters a multidisciplinary discussion on the role of the architectural project for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 UN Agenda. The collected contributions of researchers and important stakeholders reflect on the necessity to operate in the perspective of finding sustainable development alternatives and resilient responses to changes, offering a wide range of keys for reading and interpreting phenomena and challenges that connote the contemporaneity at different scales, from global policies to local interventions. Complex challenges in which environmental, cultural, social, and economic aspects seamlessly intertwine. The environmental technological project becomes an element of synthesis of the needs and resources of the territories and the local communities. Since the environmental, landscape, and cultural resources are largely non-renewable, they have to be used with awareness and responsibility, going beyond the concept of protection in itself and moving in the direction of the safeguard and transformation, in close continuity with the context of reference and in line with the limits imposed by the fragility of the assets themselves. The result is a systemic approach to the issues of sustainable development and urban resilience, realised through the implementation of innovative processes for the enhancement, integration, regeneration, and inclusion of the environmental, cultural, social, and economic heritage. Daniele Fanzini Architect, with a PhD in Technical Innovation and Architectural Design, he is associate professor of Architectural Technology at the Politecnico di Milano, Department of Architecture, Built environment and Construction engineering. He is interested in design processes for the innovation and transformation of the built environment. Andrea Tartaglia Architect, with a PhD in Technical Innovation and Architectural Design, he is associate professor of Architectural Technology at the Politecnico di Milano, Department of Architecture, Built environment and Construction engineering. His research activity is focused on the subject of innovation at three levels: the regulatory and procedural, the qualification of processes and products and that of environmental sustainability. Raffaella Riva Architect, with a PhD in Design and Technologies for Cultural Heritage, she is assistant professor of Architectural Technology at the Politecnico di Milano, Department of Architecture, Built environment and Construction engineering. She conducts researches with reference to the contents of environmental design, with respect to the issues of governance, and the enhancement of the landscape and cultural heritage for local development.Â

From park through gardens and arriving to objects might seem, at the first sight, like a big leap between these three different notions that we propose to call scales, as they are going to be treated by their ability to measure and orientate. This is what the discourse of this publication aims to highlight: that interior design can reach and enrich on multiple levels. These levels will arrive to some touchpoints in a few cases only to continue afterwards to go in other directions, proving how the research in design and architecture can become a neverending resource for future inquiries. Madalina Ghibusi Architect and PhD candidate in the Architectural, Urban and Interior Design Programme at Politecnico di Milano, she collaborates in various research projects with the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of the same University. Maryam Khatibi Architect and PhD candidate at Politecnico di Milano, she has conducted undergraduate and graduate studies in architecture and sustainable development. In 2017, she graduated from ETH, Zürich in master of advanced studies in housing and architecture. Chiara Pradel Architect and PhD candidate at Politecnico di Milano, she graduated at IUAV di Venezia and received a postgraduate research Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture of the Territory at Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio. Her professional experience revolves around Landscape Design.

This thesis aims to investigate the issue of informality. Specifically, it is analyzed the symbiotic relationship between the informal development and the morphological conformation of the natural context, with the consequent intersection of the inhabited space and the natural one. Studying and intervening in this context, means giving a reading of the informal space, which can not disregard the social and political aspects that characterize the area of development. The spatial interaction between the natural context and the informal advancement is extreme in the Chilean territory. After developing a transdisciplinary theoretical-design platform between the landscape architectural, philosophical and sociological fields, the final objective of the thesis is to apply the defined design method in response to the endemic problems detected in different places. The aim is to show that the natural context becomes an essential dynamic resource in the informal development process; therefore, the strategy of the outlined architectural intervention, which takes into account social interactions and therefore the human factor, must be related and conform to this natural process. “0-n” is a collection of master thesis which I oversaw as supervisor at Politecnico di Milano. These books are a platform of heterogeneity, which find their common field in the theory of weakness, as imperfect and manifold way of knowledge. The aim is to experience an alternative method for contemporary spaces, able to regenerate the stabilized ideas of design. They are more experimental and vital texts/tests than verification procedures: this attitude brings them away from a strictly educational approach. They can be read according to two levels of meaning: in their specific contexts and as open platforms for contemporary researches. Almost all of them are focused on processual values and on project transdisciplinary, in order to promote a cognitive space before a real one. I provided the students with fews thematic lines (a sense of short- circuit, trial, process of meaning), which were underlining an interpretation of knowledge in a horizontal sense, as Gilles Deleuze had defined.These topics have been independently developed by the candidates, so that they can be considered as authors of a new idea. I instructed this learning and researching method, because I belive that the secret of an effective education in to coinvince each student to be able to build his own vision of the world, without stereotyped positions. I am finalising the object of education in the freedom of intelligence, and not in the rules of disciplines, by broading the students’ needs and points of view. Carlotta Olivari Graduated from the Polytechnic of Milan in Architecture with honors (2019), during her university career she won the Erasmus scholarship at the FAUL, Lisbon and subsequently won the scholarship "Tesi all’estero" at the PUC, Santiago del Chile. Among her work experiences she takes part in the landscape architecture team in the invitation competition "Budapest Southgate" with Peter Eisenman, DEArchitects and Weakcircus and carries out a research period at MS-Lab Milan on the project "TELL ME". In 2018 she founded Dispace Landscape Architecture, a research platform, with M. Pasquali. Margherita Pasquali Currently PhD Fellow at the University of Trento in "Architecture, Planning and Landscape". Graduated from the Polytechnic of Milan in Architecture with honors (2019), during her university career she won the scholarship "Tesi all’estero" at the PUC, Santiago de Chile. Among her work experiences she takes part in the landscape architecture team in the invitation competition "Budapest Southgate" with Peter Eisenman, DEAarchitects and Weakcircus and carries out a research period at MS-Lab Milan on the project "TELL ME". In 2018 she founded Dispace Landscape Architecture, a research platform, with C. Olivari....

Street art e Diritto, un rapporto in evoluzione che questo libro si propone di illustrare, ripercorrendo le articolazioni principali e indagando le novità dell'attuale esperienza e riflessione giuridica sul tema, con una attenzione particolare allo spazio pubblico quale luogo di incontro tra la libertà e i limiti posti dalla legge. Le recenti vicende ed esperienze in diverse città d'Italia, come il caso Banksy a Venezia o il vincolo culturale sull'opera di Haring a Pisa, vengono osservate e approfondite in questo volume per i riflessi che possono avere sull'applicazione della disciplina giuridica. Un volume non solo per i giuristi ma anche per tutti gli appassionati di questa nuova arte.

In una società che punta alla formazione di più alto livello come motore di sviluppo, l'esigenza di dare risposte abitative adeguate agli studenti universitari fuori sede resta una priorità. Da tempo considerate, non più semplici strutture ricettive, ma luoghi di formazione e crescita umana e personale, le residenze per studenti fuori sede rappresentano uno fra gli indicatori internazionali che qualificano il sistema universitario e formativo di un Paese. Tale consapevolezza ha reso nel tempo queste facilities non solo un interessante tema di progetto dai caratteri autonomi e indipendenti, ma anche un vero e proprio ambito di ricerca architettonica, capace di stimolare la sperimentazione e l'innovazione morfotecnotipologica rispetto ai modi dell'abitare contemporaneo... Nel confermare l'attualità e la validità di questa forma di abitare, il testo ripercorre la storia e l'evoluzione dello housing universitario, restituendo un quadro aggiornato di quelle che sono le più attuali linee di tendenza a livello internazionale, non solo in ambito progettuale e costruttivo, ma anche secondo i più attuali paradigmi per una sperimentazione d'avanguardia. Avvalendosi di alcune tra le più interessanti best practice, si sono evidenziate le specificità di questo particolare ambito della ricerca architettonica e progettuale, proponendo una visione sistemica e scalabile che mette contestualmente in evidenza aspetti spaziali, tipologici e tecnologici, ma anche sociologici, simbolici e culturali. Il presente contributo si inquadra all'interno di un programma di ricerca sul tema dello student housing, presso il Dipartimento ABC del Politecnico di Milano.

Le riflessioni teoriche esposte da Matteo Moscatelli nelle pagine di questo libro possono essere considerate come un trattato in nuce sulla natura e il senso del progetto contemporaneo, una natura e un senso che si identificano nella categoria della forma intesa come un'entità compiuta e definita in sé, e al contempo aperta a una molteplicità di letture, capace di mutazioni e di adattamenti soggetta nella sua genesi a ricostruzioni dotate di una relativa oggettività. «Gli strumenti di controllo del progetto contemporaneo» riafferma la centralità della ragione in un momento dominato da innumerevoli derive verso l'autoreferenzialità più azzardata, le più immotivate proiezioni tecnologiche e le autocelebrazioni mediatiche di un'architettura che si sottrae sempre più spesso alle sue più autentiche finalità.
